Silver Medals for Old Fletton’s Football Team
Second Place in 'World Cup' style tournament for Old Fletton
On Thursday 23rd May the Year 5 and 6 football team took part in a ‘World Cup’ tournament with other schools in Peterborough, organised by the Youth Dreams Project (YDP). The country they were allocated to represent was Holland. They came third in the group stage which put them through to the ‘plate’ group stage against other third and fourth place teams. They won that stage, progressing them into the semi-finals where they played well and beat Spain.
In a dramatic final against the Czech Republic, it was 2-2 at the whistle which meant they had to play three minutes of ‘Golden Goal’ time. With neither team scoring, the match went to a nail-biting finish of penalty shoot-outs. Unfortunately, Old Fletton lost on penalties, but still did an outstanding job to come second overall in their first competition!
Congratulations to the whole team for embracing the challenge and aiming high!
